My first day out was and eye opening experience I will never forget. I have heard the stories, I have read the articles and watched the movies. I was yet still not prepared for the overwhelming feelings I felt on my first day out. I went out for two days and saw so many things I can hardly make sense of it yet days later.
Iraq is a country of many people, people of different religions, different ethnic backgrounds, different nationalities and most of all different points of view. It’s no secret that some here love us, and some don’t. You can see on the faces those that smile as you pass, and those that stare with discontent in their hearts.
The Mosul area struck me as a scene taken straight out of a WWII movie, with bombed out buildings and rubble everywhere the eye can see; yet in the midst of it all this, there are still good people trying to make a living and enjoy life. I was in awe of the potential beauty of the city. There are areas that some try to fix up, and other areas that some do anything to destroy.
